Security & Health: Why I’m Fundraising for Breast Cancer

2026 Fundraiser for Breast Cancer

Last year, I raised money for the Objective-See Foundation to support full-ride OBTS conference scholarships. This year, I am shifting my focus to health and security by running multiple fundraising initiatives. Two impactful women in my life were diagnosed with cancer, and in their honor, two of these initiatives will support cancer research. The first of these will focus on breast cancer.

TLDR: It would mean a lot to me if you would consider donating. If you do, there is a notes section where you can suggest security and/or internet freedom nonprofits you would like me to support for my next fundraiser.

About 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. That means roughly 13% of women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point – American Cancer Society.

Susan G. Komen is one of the most widely known breast cancer organizations in the world. Founded in 1982, its mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by funding research, supporting early detection, improving access to care, and championing patients. The foundation has invested billions of dollars in breast cancer research, advancing treatments, diagnostics, and understanding of the disease. It also plays a role in public education, increasing awareness about screening, risk factors, and the importance of prompt diagnosis.

Outside of research, Susan G. Komen directly supports women facing breast cancer. Through grants and community programs, it helps provide access to mammograms, treatment, transportation, financial assistance, and emotional support, especially for underserved populations. The organization also advocates for public policies that protect patients’ rights, and expand access to healthcare.

As you can guess, my first initiative will be raising money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation because breast cancer impacts women across every industry, and access to early detection and quality care is not equal.

Tech prides itself on ~innovation~, yet women’s health outcomes still lag when resources and advocacy are lacking. As a chronically online woman, I have a small platform and network. Using them to support a cause that affects women’s health is IMO both responsible and necessary.

I have two deadlines for this campaign. The first is 30 May 2026 for the Philadelphia MORE THAN PINK walk. The second is 3 October 2026 for the NYC Race for a Cure. I hope to raise $1,000 for each event ($2,000 total).

Again, it would mean a lot to me if you would consider donating. If you do, there is a notes section where you can suggest security and/or internet freedom nonprofits you would like me to support for my next fundraiser.
